Baggage Handling Systems for India Airports

In August 2008, the Airport Authority of India (AAI) awarded and order to Efacec for global amount of 3 million euros, for the supply and assembling of baggage handling systems at arrivals and departures, to be implemented in the new passengers terminals of four Indian airports, which are: Aurangabd, Trichy, Nagpur and Vishakapatnam.

These baggage handling systems include the supply of several linear and curve conveyors, check-ins, carousels, respective control and command systems as well as high speed horizontal diverters which will enable the baggage sorting in the x-ray / explosive detection area and respective conveyance to the different destinations.

Worthy to note is that his equipment will lead to the development of new product and will enlarge the range of EFACEC solutions as reference supplier of Baggage Handling Systems.

This order is very important for our business growth, namely in the field of Airport Logistics, as it will enable the development of engineering and manufacturing competence through the local Joint Venture (JV), Gearl.

Furthermore, AAI which detains the concession of 120 airports in India has just initiated a process of rehabilitation of its infra-structures and this order represents the possibility of trading with a great potential client, defined as one of the Efacec strategic targets.

During the bid analyse, our strong local presence, through the Gearl joint venture that will be in charge with the technical assistance and operation support throughout the two years guarantee period, appeared to be decisive differentiated factor which enable us overpass the strong competition of worldwide players such as Vanderlande (Holland), Siemens (Germany), Interroller (Singapore) and Glidepath (New Zealand).
